Hello old friend, it’s been awhile.

IMG_6575.JPGSpring, you lovely, noisy, chaotic beauty, I have missed you!

The stores in the pantry are getting low and the studio door is now wide open most days as I work and take in the beauty of nature waking after its long winter sleep. The bees have come through winter with minor losses and the perennial vegetables are offering up their bounty. Nettles coming on so fast we eat them daily with asparagus, lovage and chives.

I like to consider what comes from my garden when I’m in the studio. Trays for those beautiful long asparagus, round bellied bowls for salads of fresh spring greens.

After this long dark cold winter I crave color. The flowers, the birds, the earth changing. It seems so short lived. So this year I am spending time creating totems for the garden that offer up color all year round. When our layers of green fall away in the autumn these totems will continue to remind us of the light.

This year I’m staying close to home to sell my work. I strive to be the “local potter” .

This summer I will be selling my wares at the Makers and Growers Market on Sundays in Black Diamond. This is where I will introduce my new designs and get feedback from you before sending them out further into the world.

We have two adult summer camps scheduled. These are designed especially for adults who work during the week and would like to participate in a creative get away on the weekend.

July 14-15 and July 21-22 is the Raku workshop. Yes, two weekends to fully emmerse yourself!  No clay experience necessary! Relax and enjoy some time in the foothills of southern Alberta, enjoy lunches fresh from the garden. There is camping available close by also. The are only six spaces available. $390.DSC_0167

August 12-13 and July 19-20 Paper clay and hand building. Again a two weekend course. First weekend is introduction to paper clay  and creating pieces. Second weekend is glazing and firing techniques. Only six spaces. $390. Both courses include lunch and morning coffee. Supply costs are $40/person.
